How Your Knee Affects
Everyday Life

Knee osteoarthritis involves changes to cartilage and other tissues within the joint. Pain, stiffness and changes in movement can affect everyday activities differently for each person.

What has changed for you?

Pain During Everyday Movement

Share what happens on stairs, on a walk, or when you get up after sitting.

Stiffness or Swelling

Describe when it starts, how long it lasts and what you have already tried.

Changes in Your Routine

Tell the team which activities matter to you and how your knee affects them.

The evidence behind your decision

Stem Cell Treatment
for Knee Osteoarthritis

A considered decision starts with what research can—and cannot—tell you.

01

What Research Suggests

A 2025 Cochrane review found that stem cell injections may offer small improvements in knee pain and function compared with placebo. Confidence in this evidence was low.

Read the Cochrane review ↗
02

What Remains Uncertain

Effects on disease progression, quality of life and safety remain uncertain. Studies used different cell preparations, so their results do not establish the outcome of a particular clinic’s protocol.

Published April 2025; the review reports evidence searched through September 2023.

03

Keep Established Options in View

Exercise or physical therapy, weight management where appropriate, medicines and, in some cases, surgery may form part of osteoarthritis care. Discuss the options with your treating clinician.

Understand the Proposal
Before You Decide

The medical team reviews your history, knee imaging and previous care to assess suitability. A request does not establish candidacy.

If a plan is recommended, discuss the proposed approach, evidence, risks and alternatives. Stem cell care should not be assumed to replace surgery or other established treatment.

A Plan Before
You Travel

Medical review comes before a treatment decision. Your advisor helps with the practical arrangements.

  1. Review your case

Discuss your records, options and suitability with the medical team.

  2. Know the full plan

Confirm the protocol, costs, schedule and travel support before booking.

  3. Plan your follow-up

Questions About Knee Care

Diagnosis, treatment expectations and your next step.

Does every painful knee have osteoarthritis?

No. Knee pain alone does not establish the diagnosis. A clinician considers your history, examines the joint and may use imaging or other tests to understand the cause.

Do I need an X-ray or MRI?

X-rays and MRI show different aspects of a joint. Share any existing reports; the medical team determines what further assessment is needed. Do not arrange a new scan solely to complete this enquiry.

Will stem cell treatment regrow my cartilage?

The evidence summarized above does not establish that injections reverse structural damage or restore cartilage in your knee. Improvement in symptoms would not, by itself, demonstrate cartilage regrowth.

What risks should I understand?

The Cochrane review found uncertainty about safety. Joint injections carry an infection risk, and risks may differ with the product and procedure. Your proposed plan needs a discussion of both known risks and remaining uncertainties.

Should I postpone a knee replacement?

Do not change an agreed surgical plan based on this page. Discuss your symptoms, imaging, established options and any proposed regenerative care with your treating specialist.

What happens after I request a consultation?

An advisor contacts you to arrange a conversation. Share your questions and previous care, then learn what is needed for medical review. If a plan is proposed, costs and visit arrangements should be clear before you decide.
